Dear Colleagues,

Let me inform you through our Summary Newsletter of the selected activities and events that took place in 2016.

At the same time we would like take this opportunity to thank all Healthy Cities and Regions and our partners for good cooperation in the past year. We hope that also in 2017 we will jointly devote our energy to activities related with sustainable development, health and quality of life promotion in our Cities and Regions.

Information and updates

HEALTHY CITIES EVENTS OF 2016: Were you there with us? Join us (also) next time!

  • 3 three-day Healthy Cities Schools (Litomerice, Chrudim, Krnov), which are part of professional accredited training always including open introductory seminars focused on current topics. Total: 380 participants
  • 4 educational and discussion events:: Total: 225 participants
    • Thematic section: ”Quality and Strategy 
    • ”Quality of Housing in Cities”
    • Healthy Regions Meeting
    • Meeting of Healthy Prague Municipal Districts
  • 9 accredited training courses for Healthy Cities´ local authorities – “Sustainable development principles in connection with strategic planning and quality of life”.  Total: 211 participants
  • 1“National Sustainable City 2016 Conference” - the most active cities received awards from the representatives of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Ministry for the Environment, the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of the Interior, and Healthy Cities of the Czech Republic. Total: 200 participants
  • 4 international meetings of representatives from Healthy Cities with their foreign partners.
  • 5 webinars on the latest developments, questions and methodological procedures of Healthy Cities, municipalities and regions.

Healthy Cities Association Services in Figures

In 2016, Healthy Cities´ members continued to use a wide range of services provided by the association.

  • On-the-spot consultations: 106
  • Fora for the public / number of participants: 57 / 4493
  • Youth and school fora: 14 
  • National events on good practice:  5
  • Accredited training courses: 12

In 2016, the Association of Czech Healthy Cities welcomed eight new members

In 2016, eight cities and municipal districtsbecame members of Healthy Cities, namely: Benesov, Havlickuv Brod, Krhova, Lipa, Prague 8, Prague 10, Tynec nad Sazavou, and Vyzlovka.

At the end of 2016, the association comprised 130 members, with regional outreach to 2152 towns, cities and municipalities with 5,441 million inhabitants (52 % of the population of the Czech Republic).

We heartily welcome all new members. We believe that the exchange of information will be of mutual benefit and that both the new and existing members will be interested in active cooperation and sharing of experience. Healthy Cities provides ample space and possibilities of meeting, joint consultations, including possibilities to finance members’ projects and specific activities, as well as good practice examples.

How do we communicate?

We have published 7 Newsletters on our websites reporting on the latest developments in various months, including translation of the newsletter into English. The newsletters were sent to more than 1000 addresses in the Czech Rep.  and to nearly 300 addresses abroad..

We run 11 thematic e-mail conferences for anyone interested in sustainable development, strategic management, health, volunteering and other topics. Our databases contain more than 4 500 registered addresses.

13 500 people like our Healthy Cities Facebook. Currently, it is our most lively and most used communication channel. Besides, we administer favorite Czech Healthy Cities Linked In and Google+ profiles, and a video channel with film reports of the latest and interesting news from various cities.

In 2016, 36 350 people visited our WebPages ZdravaMesta.cz 36 350 návštěv.

We purposefully search for and promote best practice examples: at our unique online signpost SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY you can find 288 best practice examples divided by themes from 82 places in the Czech Republic and abroad, and in 2016 there were 574 new fragments – small projects, inspirational events and activities.

500 Current Strategic Documents in the Database of Strategies

The number of strategies registered in the national system of Czech Database od Strategies  reached a record number of 500. Since its launch, the Database Portal has recorded 93,000 visits. For example, during the pilot commenting on the document “Czech Republic 2030” via the database, 385 comments were handed over to the Government Office of the Czech Republic. The number of visits to the database increased fivefold compared to the average of previous months.

The Strategies Database is an information system contributing to the improvement of strategic management and planning at all levels of public administration of the Czech Republic. It can thematically and functionally interconnect strategic targets ranging from international level, documents from ministries and national institutions, to the regional and local level.

The Database of Strategies is operated under the aegis of the Ministry for Regional Development. and it is administered by Healthy Cities of the Czech Republic on the platform of DataPlan info system.

Planned events for the first quarter of 2017 (and some more)

In 2017, a number of inspirational events will take place. They are intended not only for Healthy Cities, municipalities and regions but also for anyone interested in the presented topics. We would like to remind you especially of those taking place in the next few months:

  • 22 February, Prague: Thematic section: Quality and Strategy
    - strategic management and quality from the perspective of national institutions – examples from cities' practice – financial resources.
  • 7 March, Prague:  Healthy Prague Municipal Districts Meeting
    - examples from practice and inspiration of the active cooperation of local authorities with the public and implementation of sustainable development principles for (but not only) Prague municipal districts.
  • 22-24 March, Trebic: Healthy Cities Spring School
    - 1st day: open meeting for all interested parties on the topic of grants for community activities in cities, Healthy Cities and LA21 news, methodology and model examples from practice.
    - Following days: accredited training courses for coordinators (public participation, time-management, annual work plan etc.).
  • 25 April 2017, Prague: Discussion meeting on Financial management of municipalities and regions as public corporations and the General Assembly of Healthy Cities of the Czech Republic.
     
  • 7- 8 December 2017, Prague: WARNING!  Please note the change of date for the National Healthy Cities Network Conference taking place on Thursday, 7th and Friday, 8th.
